Privacy Policy
Affordly works fully on your phone. You don't need an account, we never connect to your bank, and we don't track you across apps or sell data. The free version shows a small ad from Google; Affordly Pro has none.
Who we are
Affordly is made and published by MugCode (mugcode.ca), in Canada. MugCode is responsible for the information described here. Contact: info@mugcode.ca.
Information that stays on your iPhone
What you enter — accounts and balances, income, bills, transactions, categories, budgets, goals and notes — is stored on your iPhone only, unless you choose to sync (below). MugCode can't see it.
- App lock and hidden amounts. You can lock Affordly with Face ID, Touch ID or your passcode, hide amounts, and hide the app's preview in the app switcher. Face ID data is handled by iOS; Affordly never receives it.
- Reminders and alerts are scheduled on your iPhone. By default they don't show amounts on the lock screen.
- The home screen widget and Siri shortcut read a small summary (what you can spend, your category names) kept on your iPhone. Amounts are hidden when the app lock or "Hide amounts" is on, and while your iPhone is locked.
- Backups and exports are files you create and save where you choose (for example Files or iCloud Drive). Backups are encrypted with a password you choose (AES-256); without it, no one — including MugCode — can open them, and we can't recover a forgotten password. Reports (CSV, PDF) are not encrypted.
- Deleting. Settings → Privacy and security → Delete all data removes everything from your iPhone. Deleting the app does too.
Optional account and sync
Syncing is part of Affordly Pro. If you choose to create an account to use the same book on more than one device, we process:
- Your email address, to send a six-digit sign-in code, or the identifier and email Apple gives us if you use Sign in with Apple (this can be a private relay address), and your name if you choose to share it with Sign in with Apple. If you sign in with Google, we keep the identifier Google gives for your Google account, your email address and your name. Google's sign-in also includes your basic profile (such as your profile picture), which we don't keep; we never receive your contacts, files or other Google data.
- The records you sync, sent over an encrypted connection (HTTPS) and stored encrypted on our servers.
- Signed-in devices (a device name you can see and sign out in the app). For security, the IP address of each request is used briefly to limit repeated sign-in attempts, and our hosting provider keeps standard server logs, including IP addresses, for a limited time.
Our servers are provided by Hostinger and are located in the United States. Information stored there may be accessible to authorities under U.S. law. Sign-in emails are sent through Hostinger's email service.
Deleting your account (in the app: Settings → Account and sync → Delete account) removes your account and everything synced to it from our servers right away. If you used Sign in with Apple, we also ask Apple to revoke Affordly's access. Copies in our encrypted server backups are deleted within 14 days. The book on your iPhone stays unless you delete it.
Purchases
Affordly Pro is an optional subscription. Payments are handled by Apple, and we never receive your card or payment details. The app checks your subscription on your iPhone with Apple, so we don't receive any purchase information, even if you have an account. If that ever changes, this policy will say so first.
Ads in the free version
The free version of Affordly, on iPhone and Android, shows ads from Google AdMob: at most one small ad on the Home and Insights screens, never during your first day, and an optional ad you can choose to watch to use a Pro feature once. Affordly Pro has no ads.
- What Google receives. To show and measure ads, prevent fraud and keep the ads working, Google's ads software in the app sends Google information such as your device type and system version, the app's name and version, your IP address and the approximate location it suggests, which ads were shown and tapped, and diagnostic data. On Android this can include your device's advertising ID; on iPhone, Affordly never asks to track you, so your device's advertising identifier is not shared, and the app asks Google for non-personalized ads.
- What Google doesn't receive. Nothing you enter in Affordly — balances, income, bills, transactions, categories, goals or notes — is ever sent to Google or to advertisers.
- Your choices. Where the law requires it, Affordly asks for your consent before ads load, and Settings has an ad privacy choices option to change your answer. On Android you can reset or delete your advertising ID in your phone's settings. Subscribing to Affordly Pro removes all ads.
- Google uses this information as described in How Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services.
Affordly on Android
Everything above applies to the Android app too, with "iPhone" read as your Android phone, and with these differences:
- App lock uses your fingerprint, face or screen lock. Biometric data is handled by Android; Affordly never receives it.
- Receipt scanning (Affordly Pro) uses Google's ML Kit, through Google Play services. The scan and the reading of the receipt happen on your phone; the receipt image and its text are not sent to Google or to us. To keep ML Kit working, it sends Google limited diagnostic information: the device model and Android version, the app's package name and version, performance and error metrics, the settings used for the scan, and a device identifier. It doesn't include anything you enter in Affordly. Google says it doesn't share this information with third parties (ML Kit data disclosure).
- Purchases are handled by Google Play. We never receive your card or payment details, and the app checks your subscription with Google Play on your phone.
- Account and sync are not available on Android yet.
What we don't do
- No tracking across apps or websites, and no ads in Affordly Pro.
- No analytics in the app. The only third-party software is Google's: the ads SDK (both apps), and on Android also ML Kit and Google Play Billing, described above.
- No selling or renting of your information.
- No access to your bank accounts, messages or emails.
Your choices and rights
You can see, change, export and delete your information in the app at any time. You can also ask us to access, correct or delete information about you, or ask questions, at info@mugcode.ca. We answer within 30 days. Depending on where you live (for example under Canada's PIPEDA or Quebec's Law 25, or U.S. state privacy laws), you may have further rights, and you can complain to your privacy regulator, such as the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
Security
We use encryption in transit and at rest, per-device sign-in tokens, limits on sign-in attempts, and we keep only what the features need. No system is perfectly secure; if a breach affected your information, we would notify you and the authorities as the law requires.
Children
Affordly isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their information.
Changes
If we change this policy, we'll update this page and the date above, and tell you in the app when a change is significant.
